As the HE sector braces itself for the next round of cuts with the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review in October we are already hearing of cuts that will affect the least well-off with some institutions cutting their bursaries. When tuition fees were raised to £3,000 a year all institutions in England charging the full amount have to offer bursaries to those receiving full grants. Since then we have seen institutions able to offer students different levels of bursary – not based on the need of the student but how much the university can afford. We have also seen many students missing out on money that they are entitled to due to poor communication.
We are very concerned about the reports that we are hearing that institutions are cutting student bursaries harder and faster than other areas and so we want to find out how widespread these cuts are and so please can you fill in the short surveymonkey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SBHWXS5
